Here's a testimony to the wonder of this world and the awesomeness of God - the Emperor Penguin in Antartica on the south pole. I am watching the movie March of the Penguins and it is very endearing but also very challenging and tugging at the emotions of awe, happiness and sadness all at the same time. It has also made me think just how frail and fickle we all are as humans.

Some facts about the penguins - they live where the temperature drops to 58 degrees below 0 normally. In winter, wind blows as fast 100mph and the temp drops to below 80 degrees below 0. In order to mate, they leave the sea and walk over 70 miles to a protected area - the same spot every year where they were all born - somehow they find the spot in the midst of shifting ice which forces them to change the path. The mothers hatch their eggs then balance them on their feet - they dare not let the egg stay on the ice for more than a few seconds or else the egg will freeze and the chick will die. The mother passes the egg to the father in a dance and careful balancing act, then they leave to walk 70 miles back to the ocean for food. The fathers then protect the egg perched on their feet for another two months. The mothers feed and return just in time to see the new chicks after they had hatched. They find their mate amongst thousands by the sound of their voices in the midst of serious noise.

Life can be summed up in one work - resist. So said the film maker. The penguins huddle together and form one mass to stay warm. It is so cold that the men cannot spend more than 3 hours outside yet they stay all night, all day for months.
